While boom bap and alternative hip-hop exist independently, their fusion under a defined, named sub-genre had not been formally declared or sonically documented as a standalone movement.
That declaration was made by Jah-Femi Telewa.
The sub-genre was introduced through two companion works:

Released 12 December 2025, Basic Tech serves as the foundational text. It presents classic boom bap structure stripped of nostalgia, infused with alternative restraint, philosophical tension, and a deliberate 70s soul switch in its second verse. The intro skit establishes psychological framing and internal dialogue, grounding the genre in lived realism rather than aesthetics alone.

2. Alternative Boom
Released 16 December 2025, Alternative Boom functions as the manifesto. Its intro explicitly names and defines the sound, situating it as boom bap reborn through soul sampling, DJ culture, and modern pressure. Dusty drums, chopped samples, and forward-leaning energy coexist without abandoning hip-hop’s spine.
